25 New Electric Vehicle Charging Stations - New Delhi

Delhi recently added 25 new EV charging stations, increasing the total to over 2,400, including 78 government-operated ones. Currently, 12% of new vehicle registrations in the city are electric. The Delhi government aims to raise this figure to 25% by 2025, further promoting green mobility and reducing pollution.

In a major step towards sustainable transportation, Delhi Chief Minister Atishi inaugurated 25 new low-cost EV charging and swapping stations in Mayur Vihar Phase-1 on December 4, 2024. These stations are part of the Delhi government’s ongoing efforts to reduce pollution and promote electric vehicles (EVs). With this addition, Delhi strengthens its position as India’s EV capital, offering over 2400 charging points that provide the lowest charging rates in the country.

The newly inaugurated stations which will be managed by Delhi Transco Limited, increase the number of government-operated charging points in the city to 78. This initiative aligns with the government’s goal of ensuring that 25% of new vehicle registrations in Delhi are electric by 2025. Speaking at the event, Atishi highlighted Delhi’s EV policy, which includes financial subsidies, road tax exemptions, and affordable charging infrastructure. These efforts have already led to a 12% EV adoption rate in new vehicle registrations, marking significant progress in green mobility.

Senior AAP leader Manish Sisodia praised the initiative and referred to the charging stations as “power banks of a modern Delhi.” He highlighted how strong leadership and better infrastructure have made these milestones possible. Delhi now has the second-largest fleet of electric buses in the world, setting an example for other Indian states. Sisodia also explained that such projects not only fight pollution but also create a path for a cleaner and healthier future. By focusing on EV infrastructure expansion, the Delhi government is making a way to make electric vehicles more accessible, improve air quality and build a greener city for its residents.
