Installing a simple switch onto a C7 power cord

Submitted by Seadev on

Hey there,

I apolagize if this is the wrong forum section in advance. I have absolutely 0 experience with electronics. I was however hoping to install an inline switch onto a C7 power cord (See picture below)

The reason I want to do this is because I have a cheap chinese movie projector, but the manual states it's better t not have it plugged in at all times. Putting it in and out of the socket requires a bit of a stretch so it's purely for convenience.

I assume all I'll have to do is purchase a wire stripper, I found out that the inside of one of these cords has two smaller cords (Presumably positive and negative) and I should connect those wires to the nodes in the switch.

The switch that I plan on using: Inline Cord Switch AC 250V 6A

Is there anything else I should keep in mind? Please keep in mind that I know nothing about electronics so I might not know any basic concepts.

Thanks!

I might have been incorrect about the inside having two wires. I found this online:

Do I need another switch?

I do not understand that three connections? Could you check how many wires are in the AC cord of the projector? It is probalby Hot, Neutral or Cold and the Ground or Earthing.

I havent cut open the cord yet, i want to know if I can pull it off beforehand. That's just what i found online when looking at C7 power cords.

What is the model number of the Projector? The AC switch current needs to be higher than the Projector requires from the AC inlet.

Use the switch in the HOT line. It is most important.

You need to put the switch on Live line (Red in color).
